Tonight's confession
I sent my sister the screenshots she begged me not to share
My sister trashed our cousin in a private group chat, then acted shocked when I forwarded the screenshots after she blamed me in public. Was I out of line?
My younger sister and I have always had the kind of relationship where she says whatever is on her mind and then assumes everyone else will clean up the fallout. Last month she made a separate group chat with me and two friends where she spent an entire weekend roasting our cousin's engagement party. She mocked the venue, the dress, and the fact that our cousin cried during the toast.
A week later, at a family dinner, my cousin asked why my sister had been distant. My sister immediately said, in front of everyone, that I had been the one making negative comments and that she was just trying not to get dragged into it. I froze. Nobody believed me when I denied it because my sister started crying and said I was trying to embarrass her.
That night I sent my cousin the screenshots. Now my parents say I escalated a private argument into a family war and should have handled it offline. My sister says I betrayed her trust, even though she was the one who lied first.
